I am at work and extremely sick and in pain but my boss won’t let me leave?

Camille Asked: I am at work and extremely sick and in pain but my boss won’t let me leave?

I am on my break from work right now and I have chron's disease. I felt ok when I came in 3 hours ago but now I'm freaking suffering. My gut is killing me right now, I am sweating like crazy, I am running to the bathroom every five seconds.I told my boss I needed to leave but he says I've already had too many absences in the last 2 years and if I leave again not to come back.I have a flare up once every 3 or 4 months and I'm out of work for about 3 days when it happens. My boss knows the situation but I think he's sick of dealing with it.I don't know what to do.In my area it's going to be crazy hard to find a new job. There just aren't any :- (.Can he really fire me for this? Will I be able to take action if he does?I don't know what to do I'm so torn, I NEED to go home and get in bed, but I NEED my job..

I honestly don't know, but you may be covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Can you contact an employment lawyer on Tuesday?

Then you need to rough it out. If you're able to be on the computer to ask a question, you're able to stay at work.

I know it sucks, but you can't expect your boss to bend over backwards for you. Absence policies are there for a reason. You need to either deal with it and try to manage OR you need to find a new job. It's as simple as that.

He CAN and WILL really fire you. That's no joke. There's nothing you can do legally because it's perfectly legal for an absence policy to be enacted. It doesn't matter if you have Chron's or a bad back or what not. You're going to be treated all the same.

I don't believe you would be able to type this question on YA if you were in the condition you claim.I think the situation your boss is sick of dealing with is that you blame your medical condition when you don't WANT to work. You can't legally be fired for a medical condition, but you CAN be fired for blaming the medical condition when it is NOT the real problem.Unless you are prepared to visit a doctor EVERY time you take time off for medical reasons, you are out of luck.

Unfortunately bosses need able bodies at work.If your illness prevents you from being able bodied and able to do your job, they can't carry you, pay you the same as everyone else and continue on and run a business that way.You might be able to be declared disabled and get some special privileges with employment, but most businesses cannot afford to pay people who aren't at work doing something productive…it sucks, but just the way it is.

I think you need to make it through the day if you can, then start making some plans to have a job where you work from home. Also go back to your doctor and tell him/her about your work related problems.Maybe it's time to try a new medication or treatment plan.Perhaps it's time to be on disability. Also speak with the human resources person at your company about any ideas they might have.

It's definitely possible that you can get fired for missing a lot of work. Can you really blame them for wanting you to do your job and to be reliable? There is no action that you can take.
